God Desires Our Desires
Jesus died so that we may enjoy God. But what does it mean to enjoy God? In my life, I have a desire to know God. My interest is of God. My aspirations are for God. My deepest longings crave God. There is a sense of insatiability, one more book, one more subject, just another doctrine. Like a bride turning her glistening diamond beneath the sun, so do I stand fascinated by the multifaceted beauty of God.
So is my pursuit enjoyment? It does not look like the way others enjoy God... Some would characterize their enjoyment as praise in song. Others, perhaps, as a quiet stroll in prayer. While some find enjoyment at the abandonment of all possession. Enjoyment is all encompassing. It does not fall into a particular uniformity. Therefore, God who cannot be contained, likewise invites us to enjoy him in unlimited fashions, all short of sin (for God should not ransom that from sin, for which he is jealous, only to render his actions void).
From what I can reason, a man and his studies, a preacher and his sermon, a husband and his wife, a mother and her child... All reflect a facet of the Christian life of enjoying God. Every religion is built upon the rigid foundation of structure and duty, while it seems Christianity has enlivened our senses and fulfilled our human essence. The faith brings to fulfillment all that our faculties can embrace. Christ died that we may enjoy God, forever rendering our desires His. For once our faculties desired lawlessness, but by divine intervention we have been reborn to enjoy righteousness and grace. This is the more abundant life Christ promised and it is a very present reality to those who partake.
