Kids in a Classroom

It occurred to me today, that no matter how many of us feel we are grown in our adulthood, we still resemble kids in a classroom.  We are so concerned with what is going on outside the room to pay attention to the lesson being laid out in front of us.  We become entertained by our peers, sometimes getting wrapped up in the wrong crowd...  We may see freedom outside of the walls, and become overly infatuated with independence.  Our iniquity sometimes causes us to cower underneath our insecurities.  Sometimes it's simply our cell phone that gets in the way.

Regardless, of whatever gets in the way,  the teacher continues the lesson, whether we took notes or not. We are bound to learn one way or another that we should have studied for the test.  The trial will come and eventually the semester ends.  We either passed or failed...

The similarities in this scenario are astonishingly similar to our relationships with God.  How often do we try to do our homework with the TV on?  You make the attempt to do the work, but become sidelined by distraction...  We feel we paid attention in full, but in lack of practice we lose the adherence of the lesson.  Ultimately if we do not give our undivided concentration we fail the course.  Is this course not our life?  The only difference I see, is that you can always make up the class...

Let us pay attention to what the Lord is attempting to teach us.  It is important we set aside that time for prayer and meditation on His word.  It's tough, I know I struggle with it... Yet we must give God some time in our lives.... After all, look at all He's done for us!  May we free ourselves from burdens and distractions.  Break free from the shame and uncertainty holding us back from true attentiveness, let us not be tempted by the desires of what lies outside the walls.  If I've learned ANYTHING from high school, it's pay attention and apply the lessons being taught into your practical life (I learned the hard way),  And if I've learned anything from God it is "Be still, and know that I am God."  -Psalm 46:10
